New to Pole? Here's How to Try Pole Dancing in Sydney (and Fall in Love With Your New Obsession)

So you've been watching the videos. You've felt that little flutter of "could I actually do that?" every time you see someone spin, climb and flow up a pole like it's the most natural thing in the world.

Here's our answer: yes, you absolutely can. And there's no better place to start than Pole Dance Academy.

We're Sydney's home of pole dancing, and we've spent years helping complete beginners discover just how strong, capable and downright powerful they really are. You don't need any experience. You don't need to be fit, flexible or "a dancer." You just need to show up - we'll take care of the rest.

Below, we'll walk you through everything you need to know to try pole dancing, including our brand-new student offers designed to make that very first step easy, affordable and (we promise) ridiculously fun.

Why Pole Dance Academy?

Pole Dance Academy (PDA) has been teaching pole dancing in Sydney since 2009, and in that time we've welcomed over 20,000 pole dancers through our doors. We're proud to be one of the most loved and trusted pole studios in the country - with many, many 5-star reviews from students who walked in nervous and walked out absolutely hooked.

Here's what makes PDA different:

  • Four studio locations across Sydney - so there's almost certainly a PDA close to you.

  • A genuinely warm, judgement-free community - we help women discover and unleash their amazing potential in a safe, welcoming and supportive space.

When you're ready to commit and progress fast

The perfect first step. Pop on some comfy clothes, come along, and let one of our friendly instructors guide you through the basics. You'll learn a couple of spins, a little floorwork, and you'll leave grinning ear to ear (with a few muscles you didn't know you had, gently reminding you they exist). It's the easiest, lowest-pressure way to see what pole is all about.

One class is fun. Five classes is where the magic starts to happen. This pass gives you the time and repetition to actually feel yourself improving - that first proper spin, that little climb, that "wait, did I just do that?!" moment. At just $35 per class, it's the most popular way to give pole a real, fair go.

This one is our absolute favourite, and honestly the best value way to start pole. Over 28 days you'll get:

  • 5 classes to learn the fundamentals

  • 5 practice sessions to lock in your new skills (practice time is where students really level up)

  • One 30-minute private lesson with an instructor for personalised, one-on-one attention

  • Access to our video tutorials so you can keep learning at home

It's a complete, immersive introduction to pole - the classes, the practice, and the personal coaching - all in one. If you want to give yourself the best possible start, this is it.

Already feeling it? When you start a new PDA membership, you'll get 4 weeks of unlimited classes to throw yourself fully into pole (minimum 10-week commitment applies). It's the fastest way to build strength, confidence and skills - and to become part of the PDA family for real.

Which Offer Is Right for You?

  • "I just want to see what it's like." → Start with the Trial Class ($45).

  • "I want to give it a proper go." → Grab the Intro 5 Class Pass ($175).

  • "I want the full experience and the best value." → Go for the 28 Day Pole Transformation Pack ($190).

  • "I'm in - let's do this properly." → Start a membership and claim your 4 weeks unlimited classes.

There's no wrong choice here. Every single one of them ends the same way: with you, on a pole, feeling stronger and more confident than you thought possible.

Your First Class: What to Expect

We know walking into a new studio can feel a little daunting - so here's exactly how it goes.

The hour flies by - you'll be smiling, a little sore (in the best way), and very possibly already planning your next visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience or fitness to start pole dancing? Not at all. You don't need any previous fitness, strength or flexibility. Our beginner classes are designed for absolute beginners with no prior experience - strength and flexibility come with pole, not before it.

Is pole dancing a good workout? Yes! Pole builds full-body strength, flexibility and coordination - all while you're having so much fun you forget you're exercising. Most students are surprised by how strong they become in just a few weeks.

What should I wear to my first pole class? Comfy activewear you can move in. As you progress, shorts help your skin grip the pole, but for your first class just wear whatever you feel comfortable in. When you book, we'll send you everything you need to know.

What's the best way to try pole dancing for the first time in Sydney? The easiest first step is our Intro 5 Class Pass - in 5 classes, you will really see what pole can do for you! If you'd like a fuller introduction to fast track your progress, the 28 Day Pole Transformation Pack ($190) gives you classes, practice sessions and a private lesson all in one - the best value way to truly experience pole.

Where can I do pole dancing classes near me in Sydney? Pole Dance Academy has four studios - Bondi Junction, Crows Nest, Alexandria and Brookvale - covering the Eastern Suburbs, Lower North Shore, Inner City/Inner West and Northern Beaches.

Is pole dancing only for women? Everyone is welcome at PDA. Our community is supportive, inclusive and judgement-free, and we'll meet you exactly where you are.
