Step Up Competitor Info and Entry T&Cs

 

Step Up is a social competition celebrating performance, creativity, progression and participation. Each routine is scored by three judges across four criteria, each worth 10 points.

Judging Criteria

​

Pole tricks - 10 points - Skilful execution and difficulty of pole tricks and combos.

 

Floorwork & dance - 10 points - Floorwork, dance, transitions and musicality.

 

Costume - 10 points - Costume, styling and how well it supports the theme.

 

“X Factor” - 10 points - Stage presence, creativity, engagement with the audience, entertainment and originality.

 

Total per judge - 40 points (three judges, so a maximum of 120 points per competitor)

How scoring works:

• Each judge scores every competitor out of 10 for each of the four criteria (40 points per judge). Half points (for example, 7.5) may be awarded.

• The three judges’ scores are added together to give each competitor a total out of 120.

• Placings are determined separately for the Amateur and Semi-Pro categories, based on total score.

• First, second and third place will be awarded in each category.

• Judges may provide written feedback to competitors.

1. Competition Entry & Eligibility

​

1.1. Step Up is a social pole competition for amateur and semi-pro performers who want to gain competition experience, showcase their skills and take the next step in their pole journey in a fun and supportive environment.

1.2. Competitors must enter the category that accurately reflects their competition experience and level.

 

Amateur Category

• Competitors must not have previously won an amateur-level pole competition.

• Competitors who have won an amateur-level pole competition are not eligible to enter the Amateur category.

• Previous participation in amateur competitions without winning does not automatically make a competitor ineligible.

 

Semi-Pro Category

• Competitors must not have previously won a semi-pro-level pole competition.

• Competitors who have won a semi-pro-level pole competition are not eligible to enter the Semi-Pro category.

• Previous participation in semi-pro competitions without winning does not automatically make a competitor ineligible.

 

1.3. For the purposes of these rules, a win means being awarded first place overall in the relevant competition category. Unless otherwise specified by the organisers, placing second or third, receiving a special award, or winning an individual award does not count as winning the category.

 

1.4. Competitors are responsible for ensuring they meet the eligibility requirements for their chosen category and must disclose any previous competition wins when registering.

 

1.5. If a competitor is unsure whether a previous competition result affects their eligibility, they must contact the organisers before submitting their entry.

 

1.6. The organisers reserve the right to review entries and request further information about previous competition experience. If a competitor has entered the wrong category, the organisers may offer a category change where appropriate and subject to availability.

 

1.7. Providing false or misleading information about competition history or eligibility may result in a category change or disqualification.

 

1.8. As Step Up is a social competition, the aim is to provide a positive, encouraging and inclusive environment where performers can challenge themselves, gain experience and celebrate their progress. All competitors are expected to respect the spirit of the event and enter fairly.

 

1.9. Submission of an application does not guarantee a place in the competition. Entries are confirmed once the organisers have accepted the application and any required entry fee has been paid.

 

1.10. Entries are submitted by video. The video may be footage of a previous performance or a routine filmed in a studio, and must be no longer than 3 minutes. Video entries will be judged according to the same judging criteria used on the night of the competition.

 

1.11. Performances at Step Up will be filmed and photographed. By entering, competitors consent to Pole Dance Academy Pty Ltd and its related businesses, including Shimmy & Sparkle Pty Ltd and PDA Online, using footage and photographs of their performance on social media, websites and online platforms (including PDA Online), and in advertising and promotional material. Competitors also consent to footage and photographs of their performance being made available for purchase.

 

2. Judging & Results

2.1. Step Up is a social competition intended to celebrate performance, creativity, progression and participation in a supportive environment.

 

2.2. Competitors will be judged according to the criteria and scoring system communicated by the organisers before the event.

 

2.3. Competitors are expected to participate in the spirit of fair play and respect the judges, fellow performers and competition outcomes.

 

2.4. The organisers reserve the right to review eligibility concerns, including previous competition wins, where relevant information comes to light before or after a competitor’s performance.

 

2.5. If a competitor is found to have breached the eligibility requirements, the organisers may take appropriate action, which may include changing their category where possible or disqualification. Any decision will take the circumstances into account and be handled fairly.

 

2.6. The organisers reserve the right to correct administrative or scoring calculation errors.

 

2.7. Any concerns about eligibility, scoring calculations or competition procedures must be raised respectfully with the organisers within the timeframe communicated at the event.

 

2.8. The organisers’ decisions regarding competition administration and the application of the published rules will be made fairly and consistently with these Terms & Conditions.
